Arab society notes support

01 May 1984
At the first meeting in Kuwait of the Arab Society of Certified Accountants, President Talal Abu-Ghazaleh told the eight-member council that “the tremendous support being received from various governments in the Arab world indicates that the new pan-Arab accounting body is both important and needed”.

Abu-Ghazaleh went on to tell his audience of the informal discussions among council members representing many different countries and international firms. From these discussions, he had concluded that “there continues to be a tremendous need for standardization and modernization of audit practices in the Arab world.”

“We continue to look to the West, but there is a critical need to adapt those standards to fit the peculiar needs of our national economies,” he said.
